About Me

My name is Chaim Klein Breteler, born in 1998. I am studying Industrial Product Design at the HAN University of Applied Sciences in Arnhem. Together with three friends I live in a beautiful house in Nijmegen.

During this study I learn how to transform my enthusiasm for beautiful, user-friendly products into a technical concept. When I observe a product, I immediately think of the changes I could have made to make it more beautiful and more ingenious. In the field of design I have a strong opinion. I am happy that I am now developing the knowledge and skills to come up with solutions that I believe in.

When I asked Chaim if he could design a logo for my instagram page it wasn’t a problem. He asked nicely what I would like to be included and what not. During the design process he kept me adequately informed. Personally I assumed that Chaim would make one logo, but to my surprise he had made three different logos. I had to wait a maximum of two days for my logo. Personally, I am very satisfied with the cooperation and the logo looks qualitatively good.

Bas PijfersOrganisator: MTB Noviomagus

For the Mountain Bike organization MTB Noviomagus I was asked to design a logo. The logo had to include the name of the organization and the colors of the flag of Nijmegen. These colors are red and black.

After some detailed sketches in illustrator I came to the final design with the mountain in front of the bridge of Nijmegen called the ”Waalbrug”.

Evacuation chair

For several years now, the HAN has been researching new designs for the evacuation device used in most large buildings in the Netherlands. To use this product, a BHV training is required because it is too complicated. For this purpose, in collaboration with my project group, We designed a simple to use evacuation device.

The product is easy to use because it unfolds once and locks into place by itself. After this, the disabled person is placed in the chair and taken down the stairs by the use of a caterpillar track. The design is inspired by a soup spoon and consists of two injection-molded parts, a handle, three wheels and a caterpillar track. The green color makes the evacuation device very obvious.

Collapsible Rollcage

Strong Viking makes use of John Deere Gator’s to set up obstacle courses that involve scaffolding material. A Gator is an ATV with a cargo box. Strong Viking sets up these obstacle courses at different locations. This means that the Gator’s have to be transported with a truck. Until now these Gator’s could be transported with 4 at a time in the truck. Strong Viking is in possession of 5 Gator’s which they want to transport in one go to save on costs.

These Gator’s need a roll cage to ensure the safety of the user. By making the roll cage collapsible, two of the Gator’s can be placed on top of each other with the help of a trestle.

By placing two hinges and two guiders between the roll cage it is possible to fold the cage. To unfold the roll cage, four locking bolts are placed over conical pins allowing it to lock into place and be ready for driving. The roll cage is so designed that the Gator cannot be driven without the roll cage being unfolded. In this way the users can not be in danger.

OptiMi

The Climate Agreement requires the Netherlands to be free of natural gas by 2050. In order to achieve this goal, natural gas boilers must be replaced by a hot water storage tank that is supplied with hot water by heat pumps or solar boilers.

In cooperation with my project group, we have been looking for the most efficient solution for hot water storage. The problem with the current water storage tanks is that they occupy too much space in the building. And it takes a lot of time to get them up to the right temperature again. The chosen solution to this problem is to spread this space over several small tanks called the OptiMi. “Optimal use with minimal space”.

The OptiMi is a hot water storage system that consists of several small tanks that can be placed in any home. With the OptiMi there is always instant hot water available at any location in the house. The energy used to heat the water is generated in a sustainable way by means of a heat pump. There is also a smart interface designed with the OptiMi that allows you to track your water usage, water supply and energy savings anytime, anywhere.
